The top 10: most top tourist spots in DC (part 2)
We continue on our tour of the 10 most historic places in the US capitalEven though it has more than 200 museums and memorials, Washington DC still has sights that stand out. Following in our series by the 10 most important, let’s go to the second and final part, in which we’ll talk about how the American people honor who sacrificed their lives for the ideals of the nation.
Arlington Cemetery
One of the main attractions at the Arlington National Cemetery is the changing of the guard. The military holds the resting place for hundreds of 300,000 people who gave their lives for the American ideals, and shifts are a very sober and remarkable ceremony.
Pentagon
The Pentagon is also home to the US Department of Defense, one of the largest office buildings in the world, occupying an area three times larger than the Empire State Building – which gives you an idea of its huge size!
Washington National Cathedral
The Washington National Cathedral was the funeral home and funeral home for 21 US presidents since Congress approved that place in 1893. The cathedral received three state funerals (Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Henry Ford) , An official funeral (Woodrow Wilson) and seven other Memory Services.
WWII Memorial
The World War II Memorial is on the National Mall to remember the sacrifices and honor the memory of those who fought in the greatest conflict in the history of mankind. Our feelings will always be respectful to the more than 50 million victims made by what became known as The Great War, which lasted from 1939 to 1945.
Korean War Veterans Memorial
The Korean War Veterans Memorial is an emotional tribute to the American soldiers who died in the conflict, when US troops helped South Korea withstand a Northern offensive from 1950 to 1953.
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
The Shrine is a basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception), patroness of the United States. The church – one of our favorite places in DC – is the largest in all of North America!
