Old Town Alexandria is pure tradition
City brings together art, gastronomy, fun for the whole family and much history near DC
The meeting of many museums, great restaurants, family programs and lots of history, make Old Town Alexandria a must-see destination just a few miles away from Washington DC! The city is the birthplace of George Washington, the first US president and national hero here. Come with us on a tour of this beautiful place!
The first stop on our tour in Old Town Alexandria is the King Street Stroll. The street that cuts through the city has shops, outdoor cafes and fabulous restaurants! Its wide sidewalks are great for long walks through local attractions, one more charming than the other.
Following King Street Stroll, Old Town Alexandria provides us with the Market Square Museums. Numerous museums gather in this part of the city, among which stands the Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. Opened in 1785, George Washington’s favorite restaurant still runs today, whether as a museum or serving delicious dinners!
Another must-see in Alexandria is the Athenaeum. This historic building, which had a key role during the Civil War, today is a stunning fine art museum, home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association (NVFAA).
Like the Athenaeum, several sites in Alexandria witnessed events that shaped US history. The city is proud of them by keeping (and very well maintained) places where tourists are taken on numerous tours, which are very cool for the participation of the whole family or group of friends.
“True friendship is a plant that grows slowly, and must experience and withstand the shocks of adversity before it receives the name of friendship,” George Washington said in one of his most celebrated phrases.
And we know that traveling with friends and family is very good, right? You can count on us to lead you and the people you love to Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland, birthplace of the great nation that are the United States of America!
